Dev team launches OFFICIAL 1.1.3 jailbreak for the iPod Touch/iPhone

Posted on 28 January 2008 by Phoenix

That’s right.  The official version has now been released to the public.  Just what everyone has been waiting for.

I posted a couple days back where Nate True released an unofficial version.  This indeed was a sloppy job compared to the dev team’s release.  According to a mod over at the ipodtouchfans forum the real problem with Nate’s version is that,
and I quote from SkylarEC,

Nate True’s method breaks DRM, and that’s where the whole app issue came from to being with. By using the Dev Team method, DRM is not broken. That of course means that besides apps working and synching, you can also listen to music you bought off of the iTunes store.

This is the problem that I was discussing previously in my other thread.

If you want a cleaner more refined version of the jailbreak you can go over to Hackintosh forums, where all of the dev’s hang out and download your copy and start running a fresh jailbroken 1.1.3 firmware for your iPod Touch/iPhone

If you are not savvy enough to do all of this on your own. It has been implemented into the installer app.
Let’s all thank SkylarEC for making that possible.

To do this you will need to:

  1.  Make sure you have a JailBroken 1.1.2 Device.
  2.  More than 160MB free on your root partition. Move Applications to /private/var/Applications if necessary.
  3.  Make Sure you have BSD SubSystem 1.5 or later installed on your iPod.
  4.  Make Sure you set AutoLock in Preferences to NEVER.
  5. Make Sure you are plugged Into a computer.
  6. Make sure you have SEVERAL minutes to wait.
  7. Make sure you are ready to update.
  8. Make Sure you have http://www.touchrepo.com/repo.xml installed in your sources in Installer.
  9. Download “1.1.3 JailBreak (DEV TEAM)
  10. Wait several minutes.

The iPod will now boot into 1.1.3. [Source: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30617]

Please note that this process may take up to 40min or so. Some have completed it in shorter times however it is based on your internet connection as this is being done over WiFi. Mine took exactly 31 minutes from start to finish w/reeboot.

If you have any questions you can ask them here and I will try and help or you can visit the links to the sources that I have provided.

A big warm thank you for the Dev Team for releasing this valuable update and to Skylar for making this available on the installer.
