Firmware 2.0 jailbreak

Posted on 12 March 2008 by Phoenix

 picture-3.png

The iPhone Dev Team does it again.  This time they are out for justice.

Using the new SDK from Apple, the Dev Team have already managed to decrypt the disk image and jailbreak the new 1.2 unreleased firmware.

This is just something that shows the determination and spirit of a few good people that want to make  their dream a reality for all others.

Moo-Cow-Music says “Drummer” for the iPod touch/iPhone coming soon.

Posted on 29 February 2008 by Phoenix

You may remember the video I posted about “iAno“ the very remarkable piano app for the iPod touch/iPhone. Please note that due to conflicts with that name the app is now called “Pianist”. It seems that name conflicts with the spanish language.   This very powerful app was created by  Moo-Cow-Music.

While rummaging through my favorite iPod touch forum. I stumbled across an interesting post by MooTheCow.  MooTheCow is the creator of Pianist and it seems that MooTheCow let on to a new Beta release coming soon by the name of “Drummer”.  This is another fine creation if you ask me.  Very fine craftsmanship on both of these apps. Another very nifty feature of this app is that you can create and add your own sounds for a custom fit to your needs.

Features:

A 15 sample Drum Pad for your iPhone / iPod Touch.
Multi-touch. Up to 5 pads can be pressed at once.
Animated pads illuminate at your touch.
Play along to all your MP3s.
Change between drumkits at the touch of a button.
The following kits come pre-installed: Rock, Dance, Jazz 1 and 2, and Electro.
Drumkits are fully expandable to allow you to add your own samples (see below).

The new handheld pop group iBand have created two new videos.

Video 1. demonstration of  ”Drummer” app.

Video 2. a new song created using the “Pianist” and “Drummer” apps.

Enjoy

ZiPhone, the break that iPhone has been looking for. 1.1.3 is free.

Posted on 13 February 2008 by Phoenix

Zibri’s Blog announces a full jailbreak for the iPhone.  No soft upgrade here.  This is the real deal.

Currently it only for the iPhone and I believe that it is only doable with a PC.  However, this is just what everyone has been hoping for.  Let’s hope an iPod touch version will follow soon.

It seems that the “Dev teams” had nothing to do with this particular version of jailbrake.

No ‘dev-team’ was directly involved with this work.
This program is based on the work of everyone who
believed in free software. (Thanks for the toolchain!)

Well, if you are interested you can go see for yourself.

iJailbreak goes wireless! iJailbreakMobile 1.0 released

Posted on 29 January 2008 by Phoenix

AriX the 13year old developer and his partner Ben(co-developer) have just released a “mobile” version. In other words, this works off of WiFi. No connection to your computer is required.

Even though I don’t personally recommend this particular method as I am unsure as to whether he uses Nate True’s method. Because it seems that Nate’s method breaks DRM. It is definitely worth the mention.

For those who are wondering, the 1.1.1 jailbreak is based on the Nate True method while the 1.1.2 jailbreak is based on the iPhone Dev Team method. As such, iJailBreakMobile is released under the GNU General Public License version 2.

All you have to do is add a source to your installer and go from there. It is just that simple.

If you are interested in this you can go to AriX’s website and check it out for yourself. You can be the judge

Dev team launches OFFICIAL 1.1.3 jailbreak for the iPod Touch/iPhone

Posted on 28 January 2008 by Phoenix

That’s right.  The official version has now been released to the public.  Just what everyone has been waiting for.

I posted a couple days back where Nate True released an unofficial version.  This indeed was a sloppy job compared to the dev team’s release.  According to a mod over at the ipodtouchfans forum the real problem with Nate’s version is that,
and I quote from SkylarEC,

Nate True’s method breaks DRM, and that’s where the whole app issue came from to being with. By using the Dev Team method, DRM is not broken. That of course means that besides apps working and synching, you can also listen to music you bought off of the iTunes store.

This is the problem that I was discussing previously in my other thread.

If you want a cleaner more refined version of the jailbreak you can go over to Hackintosh forums, where all of the dev’s hang out and download your copy and start running a fresh jailbroken 1.1.3 firmware for your iPod Touch/iPhone

If you are not savvy enough to do all of this on your own. It has been implemented into the installer app.
Let’s all thank SkylarEC for making that possible.

To do this you will need to:

  1.  Make sure you have a JailBroken 1.1.2 Device.
  2.  More than 160MB free on your root partition. Move Applications to /private/var/Applications if necessary.
  3.  Make Sure you have BSD SubSystem 1.5 or later installed on your iPod.
  4.  Make Sure you set AutoLock in Preferences to NEVER.
  5. Make Sure you are plugged Into a computer.
  6. Make sure you have SEVERAL minutes to wait.
  7. Make sure you are ready to update.
  8. Make Sure you have http://www.touchrepo.com/repo.xml installed in your sources in Installer.
  9. Download “1.1.3 JailBreak (DEV TEAM)
  10. Wait several minutes.

The iPod will now boot into 1.1.3. [Source: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30617]

Please note that this process may take up to 40min or so. Some have completed it in shorter times however it is based on your internet connection as this is being done over WiFi. Mine took exactly 31 minutes from start to finish w/reeboot.

If you have any questions you can ask them here and I will try and help or you can visit the links to the sources that I have provided.

A big warm thank you for the Dev Team for releasing this valuable update and to Skylar for making this available on the installer.

Jailbreak 1.1.3 is out for the iPhone. iPod Touch soon to follow.

Posted on 25 January 2008 by Phoenix

Nate True over at Cre.ations.net reports that the 1.1.3 Jaibrake for the iPhone has been released. Unofficially. UPDATED SEE NOTES AT BOTTOM

I am not held responsible for anything that you download or do to your iPhone. I only provide this as informational purposes. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK and DO NOT TRY THIS METHOD WITH THE IPOD TOUCH. Please wait for a compatible version for your iPod Touch
Here is the procedure:

STATEMENT OF RISK

As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first!

Let’s continue

This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin.

Update - unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked and work properly after the update, according to scattered reports.

MAC VERSION - Download the 1.1.3 package maker and open it, then run Run_This. Read carefully, press Enter when necessary, and the image will be uploaded to your phone.

Here’s how you do it:
- Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
- Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
- Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
- iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
- iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
- iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
- When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
- When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

.

I will not provide the download links due to the fact that this is an UNOFFICIAL release. This issue has been cleared up and it seems that no illegal files are actually included. You can go to his site for the actual download.

UPDATE :It seems that there is a way for an iPod Touch to be jail-broken by way of replacing the iPod firmware with  the iPhone firmware however, until it becomes more clear and there is a more reliable method for the iPod Touch, I will not post it.

UPDATE #2 : See this thread “Getting the boot

Keep an eye out for more updates.

VoiceNotes

Posted on 10 January 2008 by Phoenix

I just made a test of Erica Sadun’s Voice Notes-0.30.  You can find it in the installer on your iPod Touch.  You can read about it at her site - ericasadun.com

Everything worked great. The file will be saved to your iPod Touch @    ~/Library/Recordings

Here is my test. Just click the link to listen.

New iJailBreak coming soon!!

Posted on 03 January 2008 by Phoenix

After a lengthy silence AriX, the creator of the original iJailBreak for Macs is back and will be releasing a new version of his automatic JailBreak for the iPod touch.  Taken from his original official page of declaration at www.apple-touch.com/. .

  •  AriX says. . . Hey everyone. Just so you know, I’ll be releasing a new version of iJailBreak shortly! I will make a new topic for it, as this one is… 74 pages long at the moment. This will again be the official forum of iJailBreak (Although I’ll answer questions at other forums too :P) The new iJailBreak is a complete rewrite, using a new exploit of course.

Stay tuned as I will keep everyone posted as we will see if this will have anything to do with the coming 1.1.3 update for the ipod touch.
