With the release of the latest iPhone 2.0 beta software, Zibri of ZiPhone has discovered a small easter egg. With the discovery of this new information, it opens up the coming reality of the new 3G iPhone.

In todays news, it seems that Zibri, the creator of the popular Ziphone has discovered a very interesting piece of information.
With the release of the newest beta software for the iPhone, Zibri found a small piece of information in the packaging that confirms that 3G will be coming to the iPhone.
What was revealed was the implementation of a new chipset in the iPhone. The Infineon S-GOLD3H. What is this you ask? It is Infineon’s baseband processor that will be used in the up coming iPhone.

S-GOLD3H: Infineon’s baseband processor supports HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) data rates of up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mbit/s) for the mid-range multimedia phone segment.

With this new chip, data rates will double. People will awe and drool and the iPhone will again be breaking barriers with its new unleashed power.

Infineon states. . .

“Infineon strives for innovative integration of functionalities into its chips to provide our customers with a wide range of reference platforms designed for all segments of the mobile industry, from ultra-low-cost phones to feature phones, including technology ranging from 2G, or second generation, to 3.5G. Our new HSDPA chip enables more than triple the data rates possible in mass market phones today. This makes broadband multimedia applications, such as video streaming or high-speed audio/ video download, available to the mass market,” said Professor Dr. Hermann Eul, Member of the Board and head of the Communication Solutions business group at Infineon Technologies AG. “The scalability, versatility and completeness of our latest reference design platform enable our customers to meet extremely challenging time-to-market requirements when evolving from 2.75G phones to 3G and 3.5G phones, while being flexible enough to quickly adapt to changing markets.”

So folks, get ready for a roller coaster of events to be rolling out within the next couple of months.
Maybe finally, us folks over here in Japan will be able to bask in the glory of owning a new 3G iPhone soon.

Rumor has it that ol’ Steve has put in a 10 million iPhone order. But that’s not all. Those 10 million iPhones are rumored to be 3G.

An iPhone research analyst for Gartner, Ken Dulaney reports that his sources tell him that this new revelation iPhone is rumored to have a better display, longer battery life and a more slim design.

If this pans out to be true, us folks over here in Japan may very well be seeing a bright and shiny new iPhone here by the middle of the year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Apple rejects new applicants to the iPhone Developer Program

Up and coming developer applicants that are applying to Apple’s iPhone developer program are being rejected.

With the recent release of the Apple SDK and over 100,000 downloads later, it seems that iPhone developers are being declined left and right.

Ars technica and TUAW are reporting a load of people that, when applying, are being rejected by Apple.

Here is an excerpt from the letter that is being sent to the applicants. . .

“Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. As this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand during the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time.”

You can see on Apple’s site that they now have added a small note under the “Apply Now” button.

The iPhone Developer Program will initially be available to a limited number of developers in the U.S. and will expand to other countries in the coming months.

You know, there is always one thing that Apple likes and that is control. No matter how you put it. No matter how you look at it. We are all puppets for Apple. I wonder where that new fund is going or how is it going to be implied???

Keep checking back for updates.

That’s right folks, Apple will be holding it’s SDK event at Town Hall. Keep checking back as I will bring up-t0-date info on the event.

*As of now MacNN is reporting that while viewing BBC iPlayer on a mobile device it has a BETA sign in the corner of the screen. This means that something is very soon in the works.

*Phil Shiller is discussing the business implementations to the iPhone. While lists of business features are looked at. Shiller goes on to say customers want Microsoft Exchange support, so “We have licensed the ActiveSync protocol to build directly into the iPhone,”
Shiller goes on by demonstrating a demo of Exchange support.

Schiller’s demoing Exchange support. You add a Mail account and choose Exchange, then fill in the data. The account settings in Mail include ActiveSync settings for Calendar and Contacts as well. Now push email is supported.

* Scott Forstall comes on to demonstrate the SDK. First goes into talking about how popular web apps are. Then goes on to say.

“Starting today we’re opening up the same APIs and tools that we use to develop our own applications today. Now, there are a lot of pieces that make up an SDK. But the most important are the APIs and the platform. And we have a great one, Mac OS X.”

It seem that the iPhone OS X uses the same kernal as Mac OS X just on a mobile interface. They have taken all they know about Coccoa and everything with iPhone API and have created Coccoa touch.

Well, it seems just as I was updating my site with new information my server gave me errors. I cant even access my site. WTF.

Anyway, a recap and sorry for the delay.

New development tools: iPhone Simulator. Runs only on a Mac and you can run your apps in the simulator. You can even debug while running the simulator.
Next they run a test app that works like an etch-a-sketch and photo editing. Edit the photo with a little distortion and shake it away like the classic etch-a-sketch.

Now AOL is up to the plate. AIM is coming to the iPhone.
The AOL representative states

“We’re really looking forward to working with Apple to bring AIM to the iPhone,” the AOL rep says.

Sega steps up and demonstrates a “Super Monkey Ball Demo” and says

“If anything, we underestimated what the hardware was able to do,”

and further states

this is not a scaled-down cell phone game. It’s a console game. They had to bring in an artist to up-scale the resolution of the graphics on the iPhone.

BIG question now. How to get all of these goodies on your iPhone/iPod touch?
Steve steps up and says

“You’re a developer. What is your dream? Your dream is to get it in front of every iPhone user. That’s not possible today. Even big developers would have a hard time getting their app in front of every iPhone user. We’re going to solve it, with what we call the App Store, an application we’ve written to deliver apps to the iPhone. And we’re going to put it on every single iPhone with the next release of the software.”

“The App Store is going to be the exclusive way to distribute iPhone applications,” Jobs says. “We think we’ve got a great business deal for developers.”

You can also go through iTunes and install them from your computer. If updates are released the App Store will tell you, then just hit update.

DEVELOPERS will choose the price and Apple will keep 30% while the developer will keep the rest.

FREE APPS are well, FREE!!!

Enterprise and SDK will be delivered in one update. ” iPhone 2.0 update” Beta is available today.
Customers will see the FREE software update in late June.

This update will also go to the iPod touch however, there is a catch. Since the iPod touch is a bit different. There will be a nominal charge for iPod touch users otherwise it is the same update as the iPhone.

To join the developer program it will cost $99.

Kleiner Perkins(one of the premier venture capital firms in the world) steps up to commend Steve and Apple for such success. In return and to salute Steve, KPCD decides to help out by starting the “iFund” with $100million dollars for developers!! WOW
Perkins says

“That should be enough to start about a dozen Amazons, or even four Googles!”

Event is over

Press questions.

Q: How likely do you think it is that a VoIP application will be developed?
A: “The initial take is that we will only limit VoIP over the cellular net, but not over the Wi-Fi network.” That might change, Jobs says. But for now, no VoIP over AT&T’s EDGE, which makes sense

Well that is it folks. Hope you enjoyed it.

According to 9to5 Mac, Apple plans to add the new Atom processor to mobile internet devices later in the year.

If this is true, it may be good news. I am not sure how exactly they will use this fabulous technology however, what ever is in store must be good.

For those of you that are not familiar with Atom. It is a new processor from Intel that is a low cost solution for mobile internet devices. Intel states that it is “Intel’s Smallest Processor Built Using World’s Smallest Transistors Designed for New Internet Devices, Low-Cost PCs”

Can’t wait to see what Apple has in store in the future.

Just as we were getting our hopes up for the SDK, we just had to be hit with this nasty rumor.

If you are one of the one’s that have such high hopes on the up and coming SDK, might want to re-think it a little. We might all be in for a big disappointment!

While these are just rumors, the folks over at iLounge have a lot of confidence in their sources. iLounge stated today that the up and coming SDK event on March 6th, will leave many people disappointed.
According to iLounge, All apps will need to be 1st approved by Apple and then and only then can the apps be sold. Here is another snag in the system. Once approved, it is said that iTunes will be the only place to get said apps.
What a shocker! This is really something that boils my noodle.
Oh yeah, one more thing. It also seems that Apple intends to cut of development of dock connected accessories. This heats me up more than anything. As you all may know, I am a firm supporter of the Touchmods team and their wonderfully crafted mic. That is really bad if this does come true because I would really like to see that company move forward with their developments.

UPDATE:
Now it seems that new rumors are flying that oppose the above comments.
Electronica states

sources which have since been confirmed as accurate — the new contact claims that free applications are not subject to the same rules that will guide paid software downloads. In this model, free software is unlikely to be subject to much if any scrutiny by Apple.

Well, only 5days left. Let’s see where this leads.

Apple announced that they will be having a “town hall” event on March 6th. at headquarters in Cupertino at 10am that day.

Does this mean that they will be giving us the roadmap to success? It is still a bit too early to tell however we do know that they will discuss “some exciting new enterprise features” along with discussions concerning the developing future of the SDK. We are still unsure as to whether they will be releasing the SDK at that time however, they will be discussing it.

Let’s keep a lookout and see what we can come up with in a weeks time.

Wow. Where did that come from? I go rest my old eyes for a few minutes and when I wake up. . . WTF? Where did that come from and how did that get there?
With Apple putting out the new MacBooks and then the 2GB iPod shuffle yesterday, I thought they were finished for the day. Well folks, it’s really here. 1.1.4 firmware is here. It seems that Apple is actually stepping up to the plate and getting ready for the SDK.
TUAW alerts us with a live report on the download and Engadget reports that it consists of mainly “Bug Fixes”. Engadget further reports that it works on a jailbroken 1.1.3 and a non jailbroken 1.1.3 also that ZiPhone works as well.

I will be trying this out myself in a couple of hours and I will report back. Enjoy.

Tuesday again. Are we up for something new or are we in for a disappointment?

We all know that tensions are building as Apple primes up to give us the best of the best. While we do know that every Tuesday this month, Apple has dropped some mighty fine goodies upon us. It is also apparent that Apple may not produce as soon as we expected. It is fine time that Apple steps up to the plate as February is nearing it’s end with no good signs that we are in store for anything good this week.

We have rumors all over showing the promising output for today’s Tuesday line up however, it is still too early to tell. Word is, from our friends over at Engadget, that new MacBook’s are on the horizon. New Apple product numbers showing up in stores order lists reveal that truly something is up Apple’s sleeve. But what exactly?

Rumors are also flying around that the new SDK will not be pushed until maybe the middle of March. The people want it now.

Come on Apple. You are starting to slack in terms of credibility. We need you to back up what you earlier stated. The people want it, the people need it. Give it to us and let us run with it.

The only thing we can do now is just wait. This is going to be a long Tuesday!!

BusinessWeek’s blog post by Arik Hesseldahl states that he has a reliable source that says the iPhone SDK will be late and could even be up to three weeks late.

Well, I can’t say that this is unexpected however, we never like to hear when Apple isn’t ready to follow through with their plans. I guess that we will just have to wait and see how things pans out as February is nearing it’s end.

New software allows mobile devices to use iTunes music.

You may remember back in 2005 when a 22yr old hacker by the name of Jon Lech Johansen better known as “DVD Jon” brought a big stir to Apple and iTunes creating a hack that allowed iPod users to use music purchased on other sites, not just from that of iTunes. In turn he wanted to license this technology to other companies.

Now “DVD John” is at it again. While claiming that this process is completely legal, he now has new software that allows users to drag and drop iTunes music to a folder on their desktop, that can then be copied to other devices. Mobile phone and gaming devices are now on the list. It seems that NGage, cybeshot devices, and among others Windows Mobile operating system will benefit from this.

The program gets around Apple’s DRM software by replaying a song in fast-forward and taking a copy of the audio track, using a process similar to that by which a CD is ‘ripped’ - or copied - to a computer.

About a hundred songs can be converted in half an hour, doubleTwist said, although there is a 5 per cent loss of sound quality - about the same as when a CD is copied.

It seems that there will be another battle with Apple soon.

If this is something that interests you, why don’t you check them out. DoubleTwist

Apple's 2008 1st quarter revenues and earnings announced.

There definitely is “something in the air” and sure isn’t the smell of my dirty socks. Today Apple anounced their 2008 1st quarter revenues and earnings. It has made company history.

After pumping out 2,319,000 Macs, 22,121,000 iPods and 2,315,000 in just the first quarter, Apple is on the way to the top. As if they weren’t already.

Apple posts a revenue of $9.6 Billion and a quarterly profit of $1.58 billion. Ol’ Steve seems to know just what the people want and I don’t think he is going to stop.

I thought that this was an interesting perspective on the “Get a Mac” adds. While it is not the funniest Mac commercial that has been produced, it does add some focus on some of the features that Mac has to offer.
