First light of Pwnage! DUE TOMORROW!

Posted on 30 March 2008 by Shade

First off the Dev Team released this video (iPod and iPhone friendly!). It is a video of the jailbreaking tool Pwnage (It also shows off firmware 2.0). Pwnage is a custom firmware builder. First you need to “pwn” you iPod though… before you can use your custom firmware. Which allows a custom loading screen, custom apple logo, and all sorts of goodies. The best part of it though, is that the Dev Team believes that “any subsequent firmware releases will also be vulnerable to “Pwnage” … like 1.2(2.0) beta.”

When might you ask? 30.03.2008. TOMORROW!

Update: Due to some beta testers complaints it is being released later this week.

Liberty+

Posted on 27 March 2008 by Shade

The iPhone Dev Team (mostly Aviegas) has just released Liberty+. Liberty+ is a rival for jailbreaking and unlocking, taking on the heavyweight ZiPhone, I got a chance to beta test this on windows, and I found it quite similar and different than ZiPhone, similar in the fact that it goes into verbose mode, different because the Installer app is optional, Liberty+ comes with a dozen or so packages that you can install while it jailbreaks. On the beta I had no problems jailbreaking it, but installing Installer did not work. However geohot fixed it. Hopefully this application is as successful as ZiPhone, and propels both to do better work than the other.

Let us know if it works for you in the comments!

Dev team launches OFFICIAL 1.1.3 jailbreak for the iPod Touch/iPhone

Posted on 28 January 2008 by Phoenix

That’s right.  The official version has now been released to the public.  Just what everyone has been waiting for.

I posted a couple days back where Nate True released an unofficial version.  This indeed was a sloppy job compared to the dev team’s release.  According to a mod over at the ipodtouchfans forum the real problem with Nate’s version is that,
and I quote from SkylarEC,

Nate True’s method breaks DRM, and that’s where the whole app issue came from to being with. By using the Dev Team method, DRM is not broken. That of course means that besides apps working and synching, you can also listen to music you bought off of the iTunes store.

This is the problem that I was discussing previously in my other thread.

If you want a cleaner more refined version of the jailbreak you can go over to Hackintosh forums, where all of the dev’s hang out and download your copy and start running a fresh jailbroken 1.1.3 firmware for your iPod Touch/iPhone

If you are not savvy enough to do all of this on your own. It has been implemented into the installer app.
Let’s all thank SkylarEC for making that possible.

To do this you will need to:

  1.  Make sure you have a JailBroken 1.1.2 Device.
  2.  More than 160MB free on your root partition. Move Applications to /private/var/Applications if necessary.
  3.  Make Sure you have BSD SubSystem 1.5 or later installed on your iPod.
  4.  Make Sure you set AutoLock in Preferences to NEVER.
  5. Make Sure you are plugged Into a computer.
  6. Make sure you have SEVERAL minutes to wait.
  7. Make sure you are ready to update.
  8. Make Sure you have http://www.touchrepo.com/repo.xml installed in your sources in Installer.
  9. Download “1.1.3 JailBreak (DEV TEAM)
  10. Wait several minutes.

The iPod will now boot into 1.1.3. [Source: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30617]

Please note that this process may take up to 40min or so. Some have completed it in shorter times however it is based on your internet connection as this is being done over WiFi. Mine took exactly 31 minutes from start to finish w/reeboot.

If you have any questions you can ask them here and I will try and help or you can visit the links to the sources that I have provided.

A big warm thank you for the Dev Team for releasing this valuable update and to Skylar for making this available on the installer.

iPhone Dev team member supposedly gets the boot

Posted on 25 January 2008 by Phoenix

Well it seems that supposedly  Nate True has leaked information that should not of been leaked yet.

The information that he provided concerning the Jailbreak for 1.1.3 iPhone software seems to contain files that are illegal to have according to Apple and he has supposedly been kicked off of the dev team for releasing said information without permission.  Please note that this is a working jailbreak method however it is an UNOFFICIAL release.

Source here:http://www.zdziarski.com/

It seems that this method is unstable and I do not recommend this.USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

According to Nate True:

Regarding the drama about this release - there is identifying information in the patches, that contains pieces of the firmware as markers for what changes should be made to it. None of it is in any sort of useful form until it is merged again with a real 1.1.3 firmware image, which is downloaded directly from Apple.

So, we will see how this unfolds soon enough.  I will keep you up to date on an OFFICIAL iPod Touch release of the jailbreak method.
